Took 12 hours and two shots of oxytocin to get the mare to pass the placenta. Don't know if she'll need to be on antibiotics because of that, but will see tomorrow (Friday). Meanwhile, she won't let the foal nurse, so he's on milk replacer, meaning that he didn't get any colostrum - another issue to deal with. I sure hope I don't get stuck bottle feeding this baby - maybe the other colt's foster mom would be willing to take on this little one.
Too tired to think now, and will have to get up in the middle of the night to give him another bottle. Gee - I sound like the mother of a newborn - that's the mare's job!
